Food safety is a huge issue - we researched this more when we found the UN Food Safety day is June 7th - this day aims to highlight the issues around the world.

Some UN facts, each day, on average ...

1,600,000 people get sick due to unsafe food

340 children under 5 years of age die due to preventable foodborne diseases

Foodborne diseases affect 1 in 10 people worldwide each year, and food standards help us to ensure what we eat is safe.

Here in Australia we have food standards, we are lucky. We can also ensure food is stored safely at home. Use by dates, checking food before cooking & ensuring food is the right temperature when cooking and reheating etc.

Things that we do, keeps food safer and reduces food waste :

✅ Wash our hands before handling food

✅ Wash and brush our fruit & veggies, then place in the fridge

✅ Freeze leftover bread if it won't be used up before spoiling

✅ Cover leftovers in the fridge - again freeze if it won't get eaten in the next 1-2 days
